TREKKING EXPEDITION TO THE SYLVAN VALLEY:

Delhi Public School Guwahati for the second time organized a trekking expedition to Dzukou Valley of Nagaland for students of Classes IX and X.

Dzukou Valley is located in the border of Manipur and Nagaland. This valley is well known for its natural beauty, seasonal flowers and overall flora and fauna. It is situated at an altitude of 2452 mt above sea level, behind the Japfu Peak located in Nagaland. The rare Dzukou Lily is found only in this valley.

Altogether 18 students and two teachers participated in this expedition from 21st to 24th August 2015. The enchanting location provided an array of experiences and students could really see and appreciate the rich genetic diversity of this pristine landscape.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND :

The school organized an educational trip for DIPSITES to France and Switzerland from 4th to 15th July 2015. 14 students and two teachers participated in the tour.

During the trip the team visited the world famous Louvre Museum to see and appreciate the incomparable painting of ‘Mona Lisa’created by Leonardo da Vinci among many others, the Eiffel Tower, Palais Garneir, Place de la Concorde, Champs Elysees Avenue, Arc de Triomphe, Invalides, Walt Disney Studios, Disneyland Park in Paris. In Switzerland the team visited CERN- A Globe of Science and Innovation and History Museum, House of UN, International Red Cross, International Labour Organization, World Health Organization in Geneva, Swiss Transport museum, NESTLE HQ’s at Vevey, Capital city Bern, Lion Monument and the Kapell Brucke wooden bridge at Lucerne, cable-car ride up to Mt. Titlis (10,000 Ft.) and business city Zurich at Switzerland.

Overall the tour was fun-filled and students got to know the rich culture that prevails in the west.

BICYCLE RALLY :

The Environment and Conservation Club of DPS Guwahati organized a Bicycle Rally and Cleanliness drive programme on 6th June 2015. Fifty dipsites actively took part in this programme by cycling through three villages. There objective was to create an awareness of Environment protection among the local community of Ahomgaon, Garoghuli and Kotokipara villages.

VISIT TO BASISTHA TEMPLE :

To understand the cause of water pollution, to observe the human activities of local area, students of Class IV were taken to Basistha temple and river on two different dates in the month of May 2015.

VISIT TO REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE :

The students of Class III were taken to Regional Science Centre, Khanapara on different dates of April and May 2015 to use their senses in learning, to relate what they observe in the museum to lessons taught in classes, to give expression to their imaginations, to gather scientific knowledge and to enhance general information.

VISIT TO DEEPOR BEEL :

The students of Class V were taken to Deepor Beel and the Boragaon Dumping ground on an Educational Trip as a part of ‘Integrated Project’on 2nd May 2015. The objective of the trip was to get a concept of a wetland, to observe the flora and fauna around, to know about the visit of the migratory birds and to observe the landfill area where the bio-degradable and non bio-degradable waste is separated.

HIGH ALTITUDE TREKKING EXPEDITION TO SANDAKPHU:

Sandakphu is a wonderland for the trekkers. It's located at an altitude of 12,000ft. in Darjeeling district and on the north west of Darjeeling hill town. This is the summit or the highest point in Singalila range, and is also the highest peak in the state of West Bengal, India. The trek to Sandakphu goes all along the Singalila range.

Sandakphu is the place from where you get a 180 degree panoramic vista of some of the highest and most beautiful peaks of the world, right from Nepal all the way up to Arunachal. Some of the greatest peaks include the Mt Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Chomolhari, Pandim, Three Sisters, Kumbhakarna etc.

Over the past five years we have been successfully organizing High Altitude Trekking Expeditions in this range for DIPSITES.

DZONGRI TREKKING EXPEDITION AND SCALED:

The Dzongri Trek gets the best of West Sikkim particularly for those who want a tough terrain; can enjoy the single trek through West Sikkim Treks. The unique landscape gets permanently imprinted on the trekkers mind. The Dzongri trek follows the trail embracing the sharp edged Singalila Ridge. The trek starts from Yuksom, the former capital of Sikkim, located in the velvet green at 5,800 feet, and concluding at the high point of Dzongri at 13,700 feet, right in the grandeur of the Kanchenjunga National Park.

This year a team of 10 students of DPS Guwahati participated in this Dzongri trekking expedition and scaled 13,200 ft. height. During this expedition the team faced the obstacles like cold of minus ten degree C, heavy snow fall, 100 km per hour wind, etc. The team spirit and strong will power took them to that height and they returned with flying colours.

EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO CHANDIGARH, SHIMLA AND MANALI

A group 16 students and 3 teachers were participated in Chandigarh, Shimla and Manali tour in the month of March. This tour was for 8 days and students enjoyed the whole trip by participating in various programmes to know the historic Chandigarh and adventurous Himachal.

EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO BHUTAN:

For the first time DPS Guwahati organized a trip to “THE LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGON” – Bhutan from 10th to 16th January 2015. There were total 33 boarders and 03 teachers in the group. During their trip they visited Phuentsholing, Memorial chorten, zoo of Thimphu, Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), Ta-Dzong of Paro and Gorumara National Park of Dooars (WB, India).

EDUCATIONAL TOUR TO KOLKATA:

Students of Class VI were taken to Kolkata and Shantiniketan after their SA – II. During their tour the team visited Kolkata Museum, St Paul's Cathedral, Birla Planetarium, Victoria Memorial, Belur Math Temple, Howrah Bridge, Photo stop at Eden Garden, Nicko Park, Science City, Rabindra Bhavan – Konarka, Udichi, Shyamali, Punascha, Bolpur/Shanti Niketan and Viswa Bharti University.

ROCK CLIMBING CUM TREKKING COURSE :

Rock Climbing, Trekking….these activities play a vital role in the development of values related to personality development and character building among students. It also inculcates in children aspects like leadership, decision making, punctuality, cooperation, honesty and provides a positive, creative and a happy outlet for the abundant energy, enthusiasm and imagination of young people. Keeping this view in mind DPS Guwahati organized the Basic Rock Climbing cum Trekking course for the 3rd consecutive term for the students of classes VI to VIII in association with Guwahati based Adventure Sports organization ‘Sikhar’. All together 110 students took part in this training.

TREKKING EXPEDITION TO GREEN DZUKOU VALLEY :

For the first time DPS Guwahati organized a trekking expedition to green Dzukou Valley for the students of Class XI.

The Dzükou Valley is a valley located at the border of the Indian states of Manipur and Nagaland. This valley is well known for its natural beauty, seasonal flowers and the overall flora and fauna. It is situated at an altitude of 2438 m above sea level, behind the Japfü Peak located in Nagaland. The rare Dzükou Lily is found only in this valley.

VISIT TO KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK :

Every year, DIPSITES visits Kaziranga National park to know our only World Heritage Site, Tiger Reserve, Heaven for Avifauna and Elephant Reserve. In the session 2014-15 we have sent 180 students in three batches to Kaziranga where 120 students took part from Class V.
